Greeting Card Business Successfully



So you are interested in starting a greeting card business? It is a great business for many reasons. Besides giving people hope and making people feel good, the residual income opportunities of a home based greeting card business is tremendous as well.

Since 2006, I have owned my own card business and it has been a blast. I have been able to pay off debt and even pay cash for my dream sports car which you can see on the homepage.

Below are six steps to starting a greeting card business. I use an acronym to explain the S.T.E.P.S. That someone can follow to start a greeting card business.

Here they are -

S = Search
T = Teach
E = Engineer
P = Proceed
S = Systematize



The S.T.E.P.S. To Follow:
S = Search

When you start a greeting card business, or any business for that matter, you need to search out your purpose or reason why. It is very important that you go through this process because if you don't have a purpose or reason why, you will eventually lose focus and even interest.

You can start by asking yourself a very simple question. A question that typically isn't asked of our children and for sure isn't asked to most adults.

What do you want your Monday through Friday to look like?

It is a simple question but profound. What do you want to do during those days? What do you want it to look like? Really think about this because you will design your greeting card business around this question.

Also, get very specific about what you want out of your greeting card business. Let me explain.

When I first was starting a greeting card business myself, I wanted to do these things:

- Get out of debt
- Pay my bills passively
- Save for retirement
- Give more to charity

I was very specific about what I wanted...and still am actually. THIS one exercise will help you stay focused when starting a greeting card business.

You might want a new car. You might want to quit your job. Whatever it is, figure out how much you need and get a plan to make it happen.

T = Teach

There are several different ways to make money with greeting cards. What you want to do is teach yourself the different ways that are available and see which one works best for you and your lifestyle.

You could...

- Design handmade greeting cards and sell them to clients. (You might take a look at David Allen's ebook for this one)

- Get hired my a company and design cards for them.

- Join a mlm greeting card business as a distributor like I have done successfully.

Focus on business owners who send out cards and have them signup for a mailing service if you like.

Note: Business owners are an AWESOME market to target because they spend money on purchases to grow their business.

Once you have your purpose or reason why and have decided on the greeting card business model for you, now it is time to formulate a plan.

How are you going to market your business. This is VERY important. You need to develop a plan to follow. This is very important when starting a greeting card business.

Don't treat your business like a hobby and expect to make "quit the cubicle money"

Your business will not just grow on its own so you need to develop skills and engineer a plan to be successful.

P = Proceed

Moving forward, you need to take action. This is tough for many people. Fear holds them back. It use to hold me back.

Learning is very important. You need to always continue learning. However, you need to balance learning with earning. Learning alone doesn't directly get you closer to your goals.

Write down what is holdng you back. Be honest with yourself. I think you will find that many of your fears are irrational (at least that is what happened to me).

The S.T.E.P.S. To Follow:
S = Systematize

Once you have started your greeting card business, you will want to systematize it so you can focus on outsourcing the smaller or boring tasks to someone else. I personally only focus on what I am good at and have fun doing.

Take a look at how your business is operating and see where you can put together a system and make your business run smoother.
